What it does

Each card shows a statement that starts with "Never have I ever…", ready to read out loud. We wrote the whole list ourselves and sorted it into categories with an age rating.

Clean statements for kids and teens show by default. Statements for adults are optional, and they're never explicit.

How to use it

  1. Choose categories with the chips, or leave them all on.
  2. Set the age rating. Kids and teens are on by default. Add adults for a grown-up group.
  3. Press Next (or the Space bar) for the next statement.
  4. Show one or a list. One at a time works best for playing; the list view is handy for planning ahead.
  5. Copy any statement to share it in a chat.

How to play never have I ever

  1. Everyone holds up ten fingers. Use five for a shorter game.
  2. Take turns reading a statement from the card.
  3. Anyone who has done it puts one finger down.
  4. Share the story behind it if you like – that's where the fun is.
  5. The last player with fingers still up wins.

A typical card reads something like: Never have I ever built a blanket fort taller than me.

Nobody has to explain anything they'd rather keep private. A quick "pass" is always fine.

Once the group gets going, try a round where each player makes up their own statement. The trick is to name something you have never done but think others have.

Ways to use it

Sleepovers

Clean statements are perfect for a group of kids or teens. They're silly, not awkward.

Getting to know a new group

Clubs, sports teams and new classmates can learn a lot about each other in ten minutes.

Family reunions

Different generations have done very different things. Expect a few stories nobody has heard before.

Language practice

English teachers use the game to practice "I have…" and "I have never…". Every round is a natural grammar drill.

Online hangouts

Copy a statement into a group chat and let everyone reply with "I have" or "never".

What makes a good statement

If your group wants to write its own statements, these simple rules help:

  • Aim for about half. The best statements are true for some players and not others. If everyone or no one has done it, nothing happens.
  • Pick things with a story. "Never have I ever gotten lost on vacation" invites a tale. "Never have I ever eaten bread" doesn't.
  • Keep it kind. Don't write statements aimed at one person or meant to embarrass someone.
  • Stay specific. "Never have I ever cooked a meal for ten people" is more fun than "Never have I ever cooked".

Tips

  • Set the rating for the youngest player in the room.
  • Keep it light. Press Next to skip anything that doesn't fit your group.
  • Go around the circle so everyone gets a turn reading.
  • Ask for the story, not just the answer.
  • More party questions: try would you rather or truth or dare.

Questions

Are these never have I ever questions clean?

Yes, by default. Only statements rated for kids and teens appear until you choose otherwise, and nothing on the list is explicit.

Do you have never have I ever questions for teens?

Yes. The teens rating is on by default. Choose it on its own for a group of teenagers.

Are there never have I ever questions for adults?

Yes. Turn on the adults rating for statements aimed at grown-ups. They're cheeky at most and never explicit.

Do you need anything to play?

No. Just ten fingers each. Some groups keep score with points or tokens instead.

How many people can play?

Three or more is best, but two people can play too. Bigger groups mean more stories.

Can I play over a video call or chat?

Yes. Read statements aloud on a call, or copy them into a group chat and let everyone answer.

Is it free?

Yes. There's no sign-up, no cookies and no tracking.
