What it does

Each card asks you to choose between two options. There's no right answer – only good reasons. We wrote every question ourselves and sorted them into categories, each with an age rating.

The default list suits kids and teens. Questions for adults are optional, and they're never explicit.

How to use it

  1. Pick categories with the chips at the top, or keep them all on.
  2. Choose an age rating. Kids and teens are on by default. Add adults if you want questions for grown-ups.
  3. Press Next (or the Space bar) for a new question.
  4. Switch views. Show one question at a time for a game, or a list when you want to read several.
  5. Copy a question to paste it into a chat, a slide or a lesson plan.

How to play would you rather

  1. One person reads the question out loud.
  2. Everyone picks one option. No "neither" and no "both".
  3. Explain your choice in a sentence or two.
  4. Pass the phone to the next reader and press Next.

Here's the kind of question you'll find: Would you rather have a pocket that always holds a warm snack, or shoes that never get wet?

For a big group, turn it into a vote. Point left for the first option and right for the second, then let the smaller side make its case. If anyone changes their mind, they switch sides.

Ways to use them

Family dinner

One question per course keeps the conversation going and gets everyone talking – even quiet teens.

Classroom warm-ups

Use a question as a speaking or writing prompt. Students choose an option and give two reasons, which is good practice for opinion writing.

Road trips

The questions need no props, so they're perfect for long drives. A passenger reads, everyone answers.

Icebreakers and team meetings

A light question at the start of a call helps a new team learn how people think.

Sleepovers and parties

Start light, then mix in harder dilemmas once the group warms up. The debates are half the fun.

How to write your own would you rather questions

After a few rounds, many groups start inventing their own. A good question follows a few simple rules:

  • Make both sides tempting – or both tricky. If one option is clearly better, there's nothing to talk about.
  • Keep it short. One sentence is enough. Long setups lose people.
  • Add a twist. A small catch, like a superpower that only works on Tuesdays, makes everyone think twice.
  • Know your audience. Silly for kids, thoughtful for adults, and kind for everyone.

Tips

  • Always ask why. The reason behind a choice is more interesting than the choice itself.
  • Save the tough ones. Start with easy questions and build up to the hard dilemmas.
  • Make it a vote. Count hands for each option and see if the group splits.
  • Keep it kind. Skip any question that doesn't suit your group – just press Next.
  • More party questions: try never have I ever, truth or dare or the random question generator.

Questions

Are there funny would you rather questions?

Yes. Many of the questions are written to be silly rather than serious. Press Next a few times and you'll soon find one that gets a laugh.

Do you have hard would you rather questions?

Yes. Some questions pair two good options, or two tough ones, so there's no easy pick. They work best once a group has warmed up.

Are there would you rather questions for kids?

Yes. The kids rating is on by default. For young children, set the filter to kids only.

What are the adult questions like?

They're written with grown-ups in mind, but they're never explicit. They only appear if you turn on the adults rating.

Can I use these questions in class?

Of course. Copy a question onto a slide or worksheet, or use the list view to pick several at once.

How do I play would you rather online with friends?

Copy a question into your group chat and ask everyone to reply with their pick and one reason. On a video call, just read it out.

Do I need to sign up?

No. The page is free, needs no account and sets no cookies.
