    What the dice roller does

Pick a die, choose how many to roll and press Roll. Every die is rolled by your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so each face has the same chance on every roll. The tool adds up the total, keeps a history of your rolls and can play a rolling sound if you like.

No dice to lose under the sofa, no arguments about a roll that landed on its edge.

How to roll a die online

    1. Choose a die. Pick d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 or d100. The number after the "d" is how many sides the die has, so a d6 is the classic six-sided cube.
    2. Choose how many dice. Roll anything from 1 to 10 at once.
    3. Press Roll (or the Space bar). The dice land and the total appears straight away.
    4. Check the history to look back at earlier rolls. It's handy when someone asks what you rolled last turn.
    5. Turn the sound on or off. Switch on the rolling sound for a bit of table-top feel, or keep things quiet.

Ways to use a d20 roller and more

    Board games with missing dice

Lost a die from the box? Set the roller to two d6 and keep playing. The total is added for you, so younger players don't have to count pips.

    Tabletop role-playing games

Roll a d20 for attacks and checks, a d8 or d10 for damage, or a d100 for percentage tables. The history makes it easy to confirm a roll when the whole table is watching.

    Maths practice

Roll two or three dice and ask children to add the numbers before they look at the total. Older students can roll many times and talk about why some totals turn up more often than others.

    Quick random choices

Number your options from 1 to 6 and roll a d6. Twelve options? Use a d12. It's a simple way to pick a chore, a game or a writing topic without overthinking it.

    Travel and small spaces

Playing a game on a train, in a car or at a café table? A dice roller on your phone means nothing rolls off the edge.

    Tips for rolling dice

    • Not every total is equally likely. With two d6 you can get 2 to 12, but 7 comes up most often because more combinations add up to it.
    • Rolling with advantage? Roll two d20 and keep the higher number. For disadvantage, keep the lower one.
    • Use a d100 for percentages. A roll of 1 to 100 works well for "is there a 30% chance?" style questions.
    • Need a range dice can't give? The random number generator picks from any minimum and maximum.
    • Only two options? A coin flip is quicker.

    Questions

How do I roll a die online?

Choose a die type, set how many dice you want and press Roll or the Space bar. The result and the total appear at once.

    Is there a d20 roller?

Yes. Choose d20 from the dice list to roll a twenty-sided die. You can roll up to ten d20 at once.

    Are the rolls really random?

Yes. Each die uses your browser's cryptographic random number generator, so every face has the same chance and no roll depends on the last one.

How many dice can I roll at once?

From 1 to 10 dice per roll. The tool adds up the total for you.

    What do d4, d6 and d20 mean?

The "d" stands for die and the number is how many sides it has. A d4 rolls 1 to 4, a d6 rolls 1 to 6 and a d20 rolls 1 to 20.

    What is a d100?

A d100 gives a number from 1 to 100. It's often used for percentage chances and random tables in role-playing games.

Can I turn the dice sound off?

Yes. The rolling sound is optional, so you can switch it on or off whenever you like.
