What the random picture generator does
Instead of pulling photos from a library, this tool draws each picture from scratch in your browser, using random shapes, colors and layouts. There are no stock photos and no saved collection to repeat from, so every image is made fresh the moment you ask for it.

How to make random images
- Pick a style. Choose a landscape scene for a simple outdoor view, abstract shapes for bold modern art, or a pattern for a decorative design.
- Press Generate (or the Space bar). A new picture is drawn straight away.
- Keep going. Each click makes a completely new image, so generate a few until one catches your eye.
- Download as PNG. Save the picture to your device to use later.
Ways to use random images
Drawing and painting practice
Use a generated picture as your reference and try to recreate it, or borrow just its colors and shapes for something of your own. Abstract pictures are great for practicing composition and color.
Placeholder images
Building a mock-up, a slide deck or a page layout? A random picture fills the space while you work, and because it's made fresh there's no photo credit to track down.
Story and writing starters
Look at a landscape scene and ask: who lives here, and what happens next? Pair it with our writing prompts for even more ideas.
Classroom discussions
Show a picture and ask students to describe what they see, name the shapes and colors, or say what it reminds them of. There are no right answers, which makes it a gentle warm-up.
Simple backgrounds
Patterns and abstract pictures work well as simple backgrounds for slides, notes, cards and printouts.
Guessing and naming games
Show a picture to friends or a class and ask everyone to give it a title. Vote for the funniest or most fitting name, then generate the next one.
Tips
- Download before you move on. If you like a picture, save it before you press Generate again.
- Switch styles for variety. Each style has its own look, so try all three when you need a mix of images.
- Generate in batches. Click through ten or so pictures quickly and download only the ones you love. It's often the fifth or sixth that surprises you.
- Build your own palette. Use the random color generator to pick five colors, then paint a scene in that palette.

Where do the random images come from?
They're drawn by code in your browser from random shapes and colors. We don't use stock photos or anyone else's pictures.
Are these real photos?
No. Every picture is a generated illustration – a landscape scene, abstract shapes or a pattern – not a photo of a real place or person.
What styles can I choose from?
There are three: landscape scenes, abstract shapes and patterns. Switch between them at any time and press Generate for a new picture in that style.
Can I download the pictures?
Yes. Press the download button to save the current picture as a PNG file.
Will I ever get the same picture twice?
It's very unlikely. Each image is built from fresh random choices every time you press Generate.
Can I use the images in my own projects?
Each picture is drawn fresh on your device rather than copied from anyone's photos. Our terms explain how you can use what the site makes.
Is the random picture generator free?
Yes, completely free with no sign-up. Pictures are made in your browser and never uploaded to our server.
